The stories that our parents tell us about their lives frame and root us in ours. My mother was a very good story-teller. Unfortunately the tape on which she recorded her memories was destroyed in a fire at our home. My father wrote about his life.

The inaugural lecture of my husband, Harold Seftel, a health activist and popular radio medical consultant was given when he was capped in 1973 as the ad hominem Professor of African Diseases at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. The graduation address was delivered when he received an honorary doctorate of law degree at the same university in 1995.
